THE STUDIO Symmetry
represents Ms. McLaughlin's vision to create a comprehensive facility
for Pilates and Pilates Fusion instruction and overall body conditioning.
The
studio features a full range of Pilates equipment and techniques based
on the 80-year work of Joseph Pilates. There are several Pilates pieces
of equipment, used alone or in combination to specifically address the
client’s physical needs. Each piece of equipment permits over a dozen
different types of exercises; several that work to strengthen the spine
and abdominal muscles. The exercises assist and facilitate the body’s
understanding of correct and functional movement patterns. The machines
utilize spring resistance, which simulate normal muscle physiology integrating
muscle synergies in concentric and eccentric ways: increasing strength,
flexibility, coordination and vertebral articulation in a dynamic and
functional balanced progression. Each client works independently with
an instructor and their program is designed for specifically for them
and their appropriate physical level. The
main piece of equipment is the Reformer. It is a padded, bed-like platform
with a base that slides on a track. A variety of bar, pulley and strap
attachments enable clients to execute up to 500, no-impact, total body
exercises: lying down, sitting, kneeling or standing. Additional
Pilates equipment includes the Cadillac, the Chair and the Barrel. These
machines increase the range of exercises done in the Pilates workout
and allow instructors and clients to pinpoint specific muscle groups
for intensive no-impact work. All
Pilates classes and private instruction are done under the careful eye
of an experienced, certified Pilates instructor and can be done in a
group, semi-private or private classes. |
